Wrote this about a year ago, but just got around to making a demo. It’s a power-pop anthem called “I Can’t Do Anything (With the Nothing I’m Getting From You),” and it would not exist without the inspiration of Gentleman Jesse Smith. Muchas gracias.

“I Can’t Do Anything (With the Nothing I’m Getting From You)”

When we met you were a pyro’s dream
My little arsonist baby, burning bright and clean
But now you’ve gone cold on me
Like a December breeze, shaking frost from the trees
Love is a two-way street, that’s the conceit
But you, you got a one-way heart

And I can’t do anything with nothing I’m getting from you…

You’re too blind to see my little mixed-up queen
I wouldn’t blame you, but you’re so careless with me
What kind of game is on your mind this time
Don’t act like you’re mine
You keep me around and I don’t know why
And I’m getting tired of getting let down

And I can’t do anything with the nothing I’m getting from you…

You’re a whirlwind on the plains, so unpredictable, so devastating

And now I’m in the eye of the storm, and the quiet is more than I can stand

Why don’t you take my hand

Why don’t you kiss me like you mean it?

And I can’t do anything with the nothing I’m getting from you…
